Being a Leader in the Industry

JD Candler Roofing is the Premier Commercial and Industrial roofing contractor in Southeastern Michigan servicing industry across the entire state of Michigan. As a regional roofing contractor, they have two offices with production yards to geographically serve their clients. They provide not only new and re-roof installations; they drive roof asset management by being proactive with service and roof maintenance packages.

In an effort to be continuously at the forefront in their industry, the business partners engaged JKL Associates to be part of their strategic advisory team to support the future development and enhance the overall profitability.

Initial efforts focused on validating the owners and general manager’s strategic vision and mission for the entity by facilitating a strategic planning process with members of the management team.  The vision, mission and strategic imperatives were articulated and captured as the plan for driving the profitability forward.  As business goals were planned out in greater detail, responsibilities and accountabilities were established.  This caused some weaker talent at certain roles to be identified.  This resulted in a need for leadership and management development.  To support this gap in talent, group and individual mentoring relationship were facilitated to align skills with role contribution objectives. In some cases resources engaged while in others situations, new talent needed to be identified and recruited. As part of the talent acquisition efforts, job accountabilities were confirmed and used as part of the model development for identifying properly aligned candidates with company objectives. 

JKL Associates has been providing Executive Insights for over 15 years to the partners/ownership and the General Manager of the organization. Over this period of time, deliverables include strategic planning, management development, leadership coaching, talent alignment and assessment. A key to the relationship is open, straight forward feedback on the commitment to the principles and business objective they aspire to achieve.  The continued value received allows JD Candler to remain at the forefront of their industry.  They pioneer such efforts as Lean Management, “Green” approaches to roofing challenges such as Solar and looking at a building’s roof as a long term critical asset to the profitability of their clients operation.  Life cycle management and roof asset protection are all programs brought to the JD Candler client community. Additionally the general manager and JKL Associates are constantly in discussion regarding the deployment of new business process and systems to make the organization “Lean and Green.”get started
